Thank you for submitting the resumes of the 12 men you have selected for management positions in your new organization. All of them have now completed our extensive battery of tests. We have not only processed the results through our patented, cutting edge computer system but have also arranged personal interviews for each with our staff psychologist and vocational aptitude consultant.

It is the unanimous opinion of our trained and learned staff that most of your nominees lack the background, education, vocational aptitude and social skills for the type of enterprise you have proposed to undertake. They do not have a “team” concept. We would recommend that you continue your search for persons experienced in managerial ability and proven capacity.

Simon Peter is emotionally unstable and given to fits of explosive anger. Andrew possesses absolutely no leadership qualities. James and John, the two brothers, place personal interest above corporate loyalty. Thomas demonstrates a questioning, skeptical attitude that would tend to undermine morale. We also feel it is our obligation to tell you that Matthew has been blacklisted by the Greater Jerusalem Better Business Bureau due to his former business association with the Roman government. James, the son of Alphaeus and Thaddeus show definite signs of radical leanings and both have registered extremely high on the manic-depressive scale.

Only one of the candidates you have submitted for evaluation shows significant potential. He is a man of great ability and resourcefulness. Additionally he demonstrates excellent interpersonal relationship skills, exhibits a keen business intellect and has noted and influential contacts in the political arena. He is highly motivated, ambitious and responsible. It is without reservation that we recommend Judas Iscariot as your comptroller and senior advisor. All of the other profiles are self-explanatory.

Aren’t you thankful that Christ was and is able to see past the obvious shortcomings of His followers and see that which can be accomplished when He invades a life? Aren’t you grateful that He was able to see past your failures and limitations? I know that I am!

Our tendency is to prejudge or pigeonhole individuals as we interpret their giftedness and potential based upon initial impressions or our own limited experiences. This completely neglects, however, the power and enabling of an omnipotent God working within the life of an individual.

In your dealings with people or perhaps in your own leadership development, do not underestimate or neglect the power of God working in and through a life. Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 1.26-29 (The Message): “Take a good look, friends. I don’t see many of the ‘brightest and the best’ among you, not many influential, not many from high-society families. Isn’t it obvious that God deliberately chose men and women that the culture overlooks?”

That’s the wonder of God’s unfathomable love as He chooses to work through the bruised and broken!
